Introduction :
The Finance – Budget Department is vested with the responsibility of managing the public finances of the Government of Goa. It has an important role in the preparation of the State Budget and presenting it to the Legislature every year. The Finance Department being the custodian of the State Exchequer has the overall responsibility of balancing receipts and payments and has to ensure that debt obligations are also met.
Vide General Administration Department’s Notification No. 23/1/87-GA&C(Vol. IV)/1117 dated 08/07/2021 the subject matter of Finance (Audit) are merged with Budget Department. Thus the Budget Department also ensures that all the Department comply with the audit observation raised not only by the Office of the Accountant General, Goa but also the Directorate of Accounts. Thereby ensuring that the Department functioning in recovering most of the outstanding dues/recoveries, etc. was also streamlined.
