Organization : The Directorate of Tribal Welfare is headed by the Director, who is also Ex-Officio Jt. Secretary (TW) and is assisted by the Dy.Director and two Assistant Directors, Statistical Officer, besides Accounts, Scheme and Administration section respectively.Out of two Assistant Directors one is posted in the office of the Dy.Director of Tribal Welfare, South Goa Branch Office Margao.
Functions:-
The Directorate of Tribal Welfare deals with the implementation of various Central and State Schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes Community.
- Statutory and administrative functions relating toprotection and empowerment of Scheduled Tribes in the State;
- Preparation of Tribal Sub-Plan and monitoring of implementation;
- Implementation and monitoring of welfare schemes for Tribal framed by Government of Goa;
- Protecting interest of Tribals in matters pertaining to employment in Government service;
- Establishment and monitoring function of statutory bodies pertaining to growth and protection of Tribals;
- Carrying out census and survey of Scheduled Tribes Community for facilitating preparation of data base on key social and economic indicators;
- Training and capacity building among tribals;
- Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
The Goa State Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation Ltd:-
The Goa State Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation Ltd was established in the year 2004-05,. This Corporation is implementing various welfare schemes for the Scheduled Tribes of Goa.
The Goa Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes :
The Goa Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes was established in the year 2011. The Goa Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Act, 2010 provides for SC/ST to safeguard the interest of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes in the State of Goa and for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.
