The erstwhile Department of Rural Development /Rural Development Agency, Goa was bifurcated into DRDA North Goa, and DRDA South Goa.
The Department of Rural Development also District Rural Development Agency, North Goa is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 vide its registration no.8/Goa/2001/dated 10.1.2001. Registration renewed till 10.01.2021 dated 26/7/2016 by Office of District Registrar, Panaji. It consists of Five Talukas viz; Tiswadi, Bardez, Pernem, Sattari and Bicholim.
The present District Rural Development Agency , South Goa was established vide Government Notification No. 1/44/99-ADM/RDA/00-01/2078 dated 9th March 2001. The DRDA South Goa is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 vide its registration No. 9/Goa/2001 dated 10.01.2001. It consists of seven Talukas viz: Salcette, Mormugao, Quepem, Canacona, Sanguem, Ponda and Dharbandora.
In the Cabinet Meeting of the Council of Ministers held on 19/7/2019 under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister, the Council of Ministers resolved to amend the Notification published in the Official Gazette Series I no. 29 dated 19.10.1995 i.e. Business of Government of Goa (Allocation) Rules, 1987 and create the Department of Rural Development.
